About Our Rigs

Target Drilling began designing and manufacturing underground MSHA permissible horizontal drilling rigs in 2004. The company put together a team of consultants with expertise on hydraulic and electrical issues and schooled in state and federal regulations to design and build a low chassis skid-mounted low profile horizontal rig only 30 inches tall that could drill to 3,500 feet horizontally in ideal coal geology. That rig was able to drill in-mine boreholes extending close to 4,000 feet. Target Drilling later designed and fabricated two more permissible underground horizontal rigs, one of which was sold to a “non-coal” client to directionally drill in-house. In 2006, Target Drilling decided to venture into the redesign and modification of used topdrive rigs; and design and fabricate new topdrive surface rigs.

Designing and fabricating underground and surface rigs gives us a huge benefit from a maintenance standpoint. We have the capability to maintain and repair our own designed and manufactured equipment which significantly reduces downtime.

Most important to us though is that, with in-house design, fabrication and service or repair capabilities, we can efficiently modify the current design of a surface or underground rig to specifically suit Target Drilling’s requirements for our client’s well applications.

By early 2009, Target Drilling will have completed another topdrive pulldown rig capable of 120,000 pounds holdback, upgradeable to 480,000 pounds, by adding additional planetary systems. Target Drilling will also have modifications completed to its CP750 pull down rig completed by March 2009 resulting in a fleet of four surface pull down rigs. Beginning in 2009, Target Drilling will begin to take orders to build and fabricate underground and surface pull down rigs for other clients.
